Want healthy, glowing skin this fall? As our winds pick up and the humidity drops, it’s time to change up your skin care routine with more hydration and nourishment you’ll need to fall in love with your skin. Here are five tips to help you make the all-important transition from summer to autumn:
Tip #1: Update your cleansing routine
With fall’s arrival, it’s time to switch to a soap-free hydrating cleanser. You’ll want to use one that’s formulated to gently remove makeup, dirt, and excess oil without drying out your skin or affecting your natural pH. You may find that a creamy cleanser makes your skin its happiest.
So, ditch the gels and choose a soothing and calming cleanser. It’s also the time to add some gentle exfoliation to your cleansing routine‚ just don’t over exfoliate.
Tip #2: Change your moisturizer
In the summer, I recommended lightening up your moisturizer. Now, as the air gets drier and colder, it’s time to change your moisturizer again. You’ll want to switch from lotion to cream, giving your skin that needed barrier against the elements. Best is to choose one made with ceramides and moisture-boosting hyaluronic acids. And, of course, remember to use sunscreen of at least 30 SPF that protects against UVA/UVB rays in all daylight hours—rain or shine!
Tip #3: Give your eyes and lips some love
Just as you should switch to a heavier moisturizer, adding an eye cream is important to help these delicate tissues cope with the seasonal transition. And, for you lips, make sure you’re using a moisturizing lip balm to prevent drying and cracking. Taking extra care of these exposed areas now will help protect them as the colder winter weather arrives.
Tip #4: Add body and hand lotion
With a decrease in the humidity we had this summer, your skin may start to feel dry and itchy. You’ll want to replace the lost hydration with a nourishing body lotion —from head to toe. Your hands are exposed more to the elements, so hand cream will keep them moisturized. Go ahead and ensure soft, supple body and hands through the cool and cold weather.
Tip #5: Boost your home’s humidity
In addition to your skin care regimen, adding a humidifier to your home—or at least your bedroom—is a great way to take care of yourself by adding moisture to the indoor, heated air. Not only will your skin love you for this, but so will your hair and sinuses. You’ll sleep better and look fabulous!
