It seems as if summer just started, and it’s already fall. The leaves are changing, temperatures are dropping, and you’re starting to wear all that wonderful clothing that’s been in the back of your closet for the past several months. The drier, cooler air that comes with the seasonal change no doubt affects your skin as well. It’s important to remember that your skin needs to be treated differently as the seasons change.
Here are a few of our skin care hacks to help you make the change from summer to fall:
Update Your Skin Care Routine
Is your skin feeling or looking dry? No matter your style or skin type—whether you wear lots of makeup, minimal or none; have frequent breakouts or never break out; have oily, normal, or dry skin — it’s time to update your skin care routine. Start by using a gentle cleanser. Limit using a gentle exfoliating scrub to no more than once a week. Happy skin enjoys properly used retinols, masks, as well as exfoliants. Remember: “less is more” should be your fall mantra.
Add Moisture
Moisturizing is key in the fall as our outside temperatures drop and our inside air blows warmer and drier. If you’ve been using a lightweight moisturizer during the summer, it’s time to switch to a heavier one.
Another favorite hack is to add an antioxidant serum to your daily routine.
Prevent Chapped Lips
Patients often complain about their lips becoming dry and cracked in the cooler weather. Use a moisturizing lip balm that has sunscreen to help prevent them from drying out, cracking, and hurting.
Wear SPF Every Day
Speaking of sunscreen, I can’t say this enough: Everyone should wear sunscreen every day regardless of the weather. It’s the only way to reduce your risk of skin cancer and premature aging.
