The holiday season brings festive gatherings, glittering decor, and a chance to experiment with makeup looks that capture the magic of the season. However, it’s easy for holiday makeup routines to become heavy on the skin, leaving it feeling tired and dry, or worse, broken out. We want you to enjoy a season of sparkle and glam without compromising your skin’s health.
Tips
Here are a few tips to ensure your makeup stays fresh and you look your best:
- Replace it! Once opened, replace makeup every six months whether you used it or not. This helps avoid bacterial contamination.
- Don’t touch it! One of the easiest ways to contaminate your makeup is to touch it directly with your fingers or put it on your face from the applicator. Instead. Use a makeup spatula or cotton swab to apply. The same goes for any face cream that doesn’t come in a pump!
- Wash that brush! Using makeup brushes is a great way to get your makeup evenly distributed. But remember that there is makeup residue, as well as body oil left on the brush. Wash your makeup brushes with mild soap and water and allow them to air dry. Do this at least once a week, though after every use is even better!!
- Remove it! You look great. Now take it off before going to bed. Your skin needs to be clean. Then finish with a nourishing night cream or serum to replenish moisture and repair your skin overnight.
- Moisturize! Look for moisturizers containing hyaluronic acid that can keep your skin plump and hydrated all day.
- Love your lips: Look for lip products with hydrating ingredients to keep your lips soft and supple.
- Prioritize sleep: This may sound easier than it might be, but the “holiday rush” can easily cut into your sleep schedule, leading to tired, puffy skin. Still, aim for 7 – 8 hours of rest nightly.
- Take time for self-care: Stress around the holidays can show up on your skin. To help control it, incorporate simple self-care activities — such as a warm bath, gentle facial massage, or aromatherapy — to help lower your stress level and keep your skin looking fresh.
